First and foremost, choosing the right domain starts with the naming of your company. Once you’ve got a name, you will need to research your competitors, as well as the domain names that are available on the open and secondary markets. There are three rules to keep in mind when picking a domain name:
- Keep it simple so it’s easy to remember!
- Make it difficult to misspell and purchase common misspellings.
- Whenever possible, go with the .com extension.
If you decide to choose an alternate TLD (Top Level Domain), look up who owns the .com, .net, and .org versions of that domain. You don’t want your business to get confused with another site and accidently send traffic their way!
